Sandhya Thomas-Montilus, MD
Dr. Montilus is an Internist and practices in Lumberton and Fayetteville, NC. She completed her residency in Albany, NY and has practiced in the State since leaving Albany in 1997. Her interest in Integrative Medicine sprang from her desire to heal patients from their chronic illnesses stemming from lifestyle choices. She determined that she would not enter her middle age with a bag full of medicines as she saw, was the case with several of her patients. She wanted to shift the practice of Primary Care from Disease Manager to Disease Healer.
She brings to the Presidency, her leadership experience (past president of the Old North State Medical Society, 2015-2017) and a keen vision to lead and grow the society to incorporate more members from other medical and surgical subspecialties, in addition to Primary Care practitioners. She also seeks to continue to add to the membership roster, other non-physician practitioners of Functional and Integrative Medicine, so that the principles of Integrative Medicine might reach and be understood by ALL the citizens of NC, in relation to the pursuit of their own health and wellbeing.
Dr. Montilus is currently enrolled in the North Carolina Medical Society’s Leadership College class of 2022. In her spare time, she can be found taking long walks, reading non-fiction or enjoying classical music. She is a classically trained pianist and sings in St. Patrick Catholic Church Parish choir. She is mother to one son, Matthew and a pup mom to an Aussie Shepherd, Chapo and his younger “brother,” Pablo, a Rottsky.
